What is a Pellet Stove?
A pellet stove is a stove that burns compressed wood or biomass pellets to create a source of heat for residential and sometimes industrial spaces. By slowly feeding fuel from a storage container (hopper) into a burn-pot area, they create a constant flame that requires little to no physical adjustments.
A pellet stove normally consists of these components, whether basic or complex:

Installing a Pellet Stove or Wood Stove
Proper installation of your new pellet stove or wood stove is very important for the safe and efficient use of your new appliance. An improperly installed stove can pose serious safety concerns and also negatively impact the performance of your unit. Although we always highly encourage you to have your stove professionally installed, many people successfully install the stove themselves. You can find all of the information needed in the owner's manual for a proper installation. However, we have also put together a detailed pellet stove installation page on our website to discuss some additional aspects of installation.Even if you have the unit professionally installed you should be familiar with the installation requirements to ensure that the stove is indeed properly installed. After all, it is your safety that is at stake. In addition, you should check with your municipality for any local installation or permitting requirements. For some detailed information regarding pellet stove installation be sure to visit our pellet stove installation page.
Federal Tax Credit - 2009 & 2010
The American Recovery & Re-Investment Act of 2009 was signed into law on February 17th of this year. This economic stimulus legislation includes a 30% tax credit (up to $1,500) for homeowners who purchase a new 75% efficient biomass-burning stove (i.e. wood pellet stoves, wood stoves, and Multi-Fuel stoves) in 2009 and/or 2010. This is for all qualifying purchases made from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2010. The credit can be used toward the stove and installation costs. The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA) and the Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) worked very hard and succeeded in including this tax credit to help consumers fight rising home heating costs.
Today, there are approximately 1 million pellet stoves and fireplace inserts used throughout homes in the United States and Canada. Pellet stoves are a proven technology that has been used for close to 30 years.
